Thanks, Danaë. Your comments mean a lot just at a time when things are starting to wind down. And congrats on your weight loss, too! Feels damn good, doesn't it? It sounds like you've got the right mentality and plan to reach your goal; you don't need me to tell you what to do :) You WILL get there; I have no doubt of that.

And you're right: moderation is definitely a key to weight loss success. In fact I'm having KFC tonight for dinner--12 Weight Watchers Points total for the Honey BBQ Sandwich and Potato Wedges. That's fine for tonight but as you said, not every other night, like the way I used to dine on Chinese food. No wonder I weighed nearly 300 lbs.!

Yeah, life sans bread would definitely suck. I couldn't imagine it so I chose Weight Watchers. I've got nothing but praise for their lifestyle change program (not a diet), unlike those programs that make you buy their own food. (Note: South Beach Living products are indeed good.)

Again, congrats and best of luck to you. Stop by now and then and drop a note. And see you around the Fark fatty threads :p

Hey Dave,

I came across your blog on Fark (see, fat threads *can* do some good!), and I just wanted to pop in and tell you that I think you're doing an awesome job.

I think I identify with your journey so much because I've lost a lot of weight myself: 60 pounds in the last year, motivated by nothing other than I was tired of being a plodding, embarrassed fatass.

Also like you, I didn't want to "diet", even though my own mother had had a lot of success with the Atkins thing. I wanted something I could do the rest of my life, and a life devoid of pasta and bread is no life at all, especially as much as I love Italian food. It's the simplest advice in the world, but it worked: eat less, exercise more. A cookie now and then is okay; a box of cookies every other day is not. Amazing what moderation can do.

Anyway, I've got about 30 more pounds to go towards my goal, and you're definitely an inspiration to keep at it. You don't seem like you need it, but good luck with your goal. I'm sure I'll be back, and I'll see you around Farkistan.

Thanks! My goal is the blog's title: 200 lbs. by my 40th birthday. At my current rate I will shatter that goal! I'm actually aiming to be at 200 lbs. or less by the time my vacation comes around in October, so things are looking very good right now. After 200 lbs. is reached, Phase Two will begin!

Good job. Two pounds a week (average) is spectacular (and safe) even if it sometimes tests the patience.

I don't remember seeing your goal. Have you set one yet?
