Bad news? Good news? A little of both?

  • Weekly Weigh-In #3, Phase 2: 200.9 lbs.
  • Last Week’s Weigh-In: 202.0 lbs.
  • Gain/loss of: -1.1 lbs.
  • Phase 2 Loss: 2.4 lbs.
  • Pounds to Go: 10.9 lbs.
  • Weight Loss to Date: 96.1 lbs.

The bad news: it’s looking less and less likely that I will be at 190 lbs. by my birthday, so I’m officially lifting that as my goal date. It’s just not happening.

The good news: I ran 5k on the treadmill last night!

More later…

Hooray for small victories!

We took a trip to Target tonight for some much needed eye drops. (My left eye has been very irritated and red lately; almost to the point of pinkeye.)

While there I decided to hit the clearance racks for some better-fitting clothes. It was on those racks that I found some Mossimo shorts marked down to the insane price of $6.24 (originally $24.99). The one problem: they were size 36.

Not wanting to pass up such a great deal for something I would definitely wear, I took the shorts into the dressing room to try them on–and they fit.

People, you don’t understand. I haven’t bern that size since my senior year of high school, well over 20 years ago. Although I’m struggling with getting down to 190 lbs., this accomplishment really motivates me to work harder.

Speaking of which, I also broke down and bought a Timex Ironman watch that monitors your heart rate, determines calories burned, etc. This works out really well on the treadmill, as does watching the all-new MLB Network channel to pass the time.

That’s all I have for now. I’m posting from my iPod Touch with the WordPress app so for the sake of putting less strain on my eyes, this is all you get for now :)

Here are the totals for Week #2 of Phase 2:

  • Weekly Weigh-In #2; Phase 2: 202.0 lbs.
  • Last Week’s Weigh-In: 202.5 lbs.
  • Gain/loss of: -0.5 lbs.
  • Phase 2 Loss: -1.3 lbs.
  • Pounds to Go: 12.0 lbs.
  • Weight Loss to Date: 95.0 lbs.

As a fella once said, “Ain’t that a kick in the head?”

Needless to say, those numbers are indeed disappointing and I’m beginning to think my scale is getting wiggy on me or something. I can step on it three times and get three different readings–and that ain’t good. And at this rate I will have to shed 4 lbs. per week over the next three weeks in order to meet my goal and you know what? That’s not healthy and I refuse to do it. So while I’ll continue to do the Weigh-Ins, know that there’s a good chance I won’t be at 190 lbs. on the final one. Disappointing, but that’s the way it needs to be.

The good news. I continue to run on the treadmill each night. Perhaps tonight I will take a break and do nothing but the way I am, I seriously doubt it. For as hard as it was to run 1 mile on the first day, it seems that much easier to run 2 miles each and every night. Funny how that works…

Now that this week’s Weigh-In is all done, it’s time to recall what I did last week and make it a point not to repeat it. Let’s hope the same things don’t happen this week.

Gotta go!

Preparation

In preparation for the two upcoming 5k walks and the biggie, the Disneyland 5k run in September, I went out and bought something I had been wanting to buy for some time now: a treadmill.

It’s not the fanciest, most advanced piece of equipment you can buy because, well, I have debts I’ve got to pay and anything more than the price of this unit would have been a burden on my wallet. But after assembling the thing and giving a spin a few times, I’m very happy I finally purchased one.

So, how have I done so far? Since buying the thing on Saturday (after getting our taxes done and being very happy with the results!), I jogged a mile each weekend day and today jogged over 2 miles–about 2/3 the distance of a 5k in 27 minutes. Not bad for a guy that just a few years ago was downing Hostess Fruit Pies like they were going out of style.

And I’ve come to realize that watching TV while on the treadmill is much easier than just listening to my iPod, except for when you’re watching COPS and they are pursuing a suspect on foot–I got slightly dizzy :) I also noticed that weight seems to come off much quicker when you jog instead of doing Wii Fit, so I have temporarily abandoned it. I haven’t sweat like this in a long time.

Once I get the hang of this, then it will be time to take this dog and pony show outside into the great wide open and see how I handle real terrain. Sounds simple enough but I do realize that it will be entirely different.

We’ll see how it goes!

Less Than 30 to 40

Does that title make any sense to you? It will in a minute.

You see, as of this post I have less than 30 days left of my 30s. That’s because on February 14th–Valentine’s Day for those of you keeping score at home–I will turn 40, officially giving up on keeping track of my chronological age and becoming just another foodbag wandering the face of this material sphere called Earth. As such, my life will statistically be half over and I will start to hear the distant sound of the Grim Reaper laughing as he sharpens his sickle. Sparks will be flying and everything. Should be pretty cool–like an old Black Sabbath album cover.

But ah, it doesn’t have to be this way! And you know what? I’m not going to let it. Stay with me because I’m now going to drop a few little tibdits on you.
